2016 as a LEAP YEAR
A leap year
is a year that lasts 366 instead of the usual 365 days. In the Gregorian calendar, which is
internationally accepted civil calendar, one day is added to the second month of the year every four
years.
February in a leap year has 29 days instead of the usual 28.
The aim of
inserting one additional day is to keep the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical year. The astronomical year lasts not 365 but 365.25 days;
therefore, the problem is solved by adding one day every four years.
A year that is not a
leap year is called a common year.
